The Project

Work description

The feasibility study HyperBike includes the following work packages:
  • WP100 Project management (coordination of work packages, communication and reporting)
  • WP200 Bicycle design and validation of demand
  • WP300 Microscopic simulation of the hybrid engine (recuperation)
  • WP400 Feasibility study of the recuperated electrical engine with max. 1:10 overload capacity
  • WP500 Design and validation of control concept
  • WP600 Scenarios for costs and market potential
  • WP700 Development of scenarios: application of the innovative technology in the automotive-sector
  • WP800 Dissemination of results
The study, with a duration of 12 months, will be finished with a work package that develops scenarios for the implementation of the technology in the automotive area: many local operating fleets are running with low speed limits, common brakes and accelerations. These include two wheel vehicles (delivery agents), light (courier and express services) and heavy utility vehicles (garbage and reusable material collection) as well as rail based vehicles (railcars with combustion engines). For many of those vehicles the hybrid techno-logy with recuperation can lead to a significant reduction of energy consumption and emissions. Austrian vehicle industry is already involved in the development of hybrid engines in the bus sector. But there are additional possible application areas in the automotive sector, where solutions developed within HyperBike may be adapted. Some examples for such application areas will be explored in the study.
